Grant Funds for Businesses in Freeport, Texas

Businesses operating in Freeport, Texas may qualify for grant funds through the Freeport Economic Development Corporation (FEDC). We are dedicated to improving the City of Freeport through economic development and quality-of-life projects. The FEDC is committed to not only attracting new businesses but also retaining those already doing business here.

The FEDC can issue grants to qualified businesses on a case-by-case basis. The purpose of this program is to promote the development and expansion of new and existing business enterprises within the city limits of Freeport, Texas, and enhance the economic welfare of citizens by securing and retaining business enterprises and maintaining a higher level of employment, economic activity, and stability. 

All of the following grants are 50% match programs

  1. Façade Improvements; up to $10,000
    1. Examples of improvement to the facade including, but not limited to: 
      1. Exterior Paint
      2. Masonry Cleaning and Restoration
      3. Awnings, Windows, Doors, Cornices, Soffits, Canopies
      4. General Exterior Maintenance Repair & Exterior Lighting
  2. Sign Improvements; up to $3,500
    1. Examples of improvements to the sign including, but not limited to: 
      1. New Signs
      2. Major Renovations or Removal of Existing Signs
      3. Ask about LED lighting (restrictions apply to Downtown Historic Districts)
  3. Property Improvements; up to $10,000
    1. Examples of improvements to the property including, but not limited to: 
      1. Parking Lot Resurfacing
      2. Driveway Improvements
      3. General Interior Maintenance Repair
      4. Miscellaneous Repairs and Maintenance
  4. Landscaping Improvements; up to $10,000
    1. Examples of improvements to the landscaping including, but not limited to:
      1. Grass, Mound Covers, Shrubs, Vines, Hedges, Trees, 
      2. Non-Living durable materials that are commonly used in landscaping, excluding paving. 
      3. Landscape lighting such as in-ground lighting for walkways. 
  5. Fire Suppression Improvements; up to $25,000
    1. Examples of improvements to the fire suppression system including, but not limited to:
      1. Purchase and Installation of a Sprinkler/Fire Suppression System as required by the Freeport Fire Marshall. 
      2. It must include documentation containing a floor plan, diagram of the proposed system, and specific occupancy and use that was submitted to the Fire Marshall. 
  6. Mega Grant; up to $30,000
    1.  It can be a combination of Grant Types 1-4 or stand-alone. This is a competitive grant that will give priority to businesses downtown.
    2. This grant is awarded to one applicant per year. 
    3. Applications for this grant open in October and will close in February of the fiscal year  (Applications for FY 2025-2026 have closed and been awarded.)

Proposed changes to amounts and categories for fiscal year 2026 as noted below: 

  1. Façade Improvements; up to $10,000 → $15,000
  2. Sign Improvements; up to $3,500 → $7,000
  3. Property Improvements; up to $10,000 → $20,000
  4. Landscaping Improvements; up to $10,000 → No Change
  5. Fire Suppression Improvements (CHANGE: Category name: Fire & Safety Improvements); up to $25,000
  6. Mega Grant; up to $30,000 → $40,000
