Executive Director

Robert Johnson serves as Executive Director of the Freeport Economic Development Corporation, where he leads strategic initiatives focused on strengthening Freeport’s economic foundation and supporting long-term community growth.

Prior to joining Freeport, Robert served as Executive Director of the Gladewater Economic Development Corporation in Gladewater, Texas. He also worked as an Economic Development Specialist for the Texas Historical Commission’s Main Street Program, supporting downtown revitalization efforts and helping communities preserve and strengthen their historic cores.

Robert served 22 years in the United States Military. His first four years were spent on active duty in the United States Air Force, followed by service in the U.S. Army National Guard. His military background instilled a strong sense of discipline, accountability, and commitment to public service that continues to guide his leadership today.

He earned his bachelor’s degree from The University of Texas at Austin and his master’s degree from St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas.

Robert believes that successful economic development begins with listening, building partnerships, and making thoughtful investments that serve both businesses and residents. He welcomes collaboration and values open communication with stakeholders across the community.
In his free time, Robert enjoys playing music, reading, and traveling.
