Lost? That’s exactly what wayfinding is meant to fix.

You may have heard us use the word “wayfinding” lately, but what does that actually mean?
Wayfinding is simply how people find their way around a community.

It includes the signs, landmarks, maps, colors, symbols, and other visual cues that help residents and visitors understand:

• 📍 Where they are
• ➡️ Where they are going
• 🏖️ How to get to important destinations
• 🏙️ What areas and attractions are nearby

For Freeport, that could include helping people better find places like Downtown, the beach, parks, public facilities, recreational areas, businesses, and other community destinations.
But good wayfinding does more than give directions. It can create a more welcoming experience, make destinations easier to find, improve the appearance of major corridors, and help create a consistent identity throughout the community.

The Freeport Economic Development Corporation is currently working with Clark Condon on a wayfinding project that looks at both how we guide people through Freeport and how our community is visually represented along the way.

The goal is simple: make Freeport easier to navigate, easier to recognize, and easier to explore.
As this project continues, we’ll share more about the process, the ideas being considered, and what residents can expect to see in the future.
