You Asked. Here's What We've Been Working On Behind the Scenes.

Revitalizing downtown isn't just about what you can see today. Much of the work that creates long-term success happens before new buildings, streetscapes, or public improvements ever become visible.

We've heard your questions about downtown, so we'd like to share some of the projects that have been happening behind the scenes.

Alley Infrastructure Improvements

The Freeport EDC has been working with CenterPoint Energy and City departments to improve access and prepare for future infrastructure projects.

These efforts have included:

• Raising utility lines so sanitation trucks can safely access downtown alleys for trash and recycling collection.

• Locating underground utilities to support future infrastructure improvements.

• Coordinating drainage efforts to help reduce standing water and protect downtown buildings.

While these improvements may not always be visible, they are essential to preparing downtown for future investment and redevelopment.

Drainage Improvements at 210 W. Park Avenue

Work has also been completed to improve drainage around 210 W. Park Avenue.

These improvements help reduce water buildup affecting surrounding downtown properties, including nearby businesses that have experienced drainage concerns during heavy rainfall.

 Protecting Existing Downtown Investments

The EDC has also been performing scheduled maintenance on EDC-owned properties to address roofing issues that have the potential to impact neighboring buildings.

Maintaining existing properties is just as important as creating new opportunities, helping preserve investments while preparing for future redevelopment.

These are just a few examples of the work happening behind the scenes. In the coming weeks, we'll continue sharing updates on downtown infrastructure, grant opportunities, wayfinding, park improvements, and other projects currently underway. Thank you for supporting Downtown Freeport as we continue building for the future, one project at a time.
